HarloKyn 2018 and 2019 Summer Internships

HarloKyn’s 2018 and 2019 Summer Analysts were some of SMU’s best and brightest. As SMU alumni ourselves (we should include Georgetown and Syracuse), we love connecting locally with the University and seeing how the school is making our degrees even more valuable with the quality of minds they are recruiting and educating.

Alex McNamara graduated from SMU’s Dedman College as a Dean’s Scholar, Dedman Scholar, and Honors student. He graduated in May 2019 (a year early) with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy and is currently a first-year law student at the University of Chicago. Over the course of both summers, Alex supported Fetch Package, Inc., a HarloKyn portfolio company, on new market analysis and expansion opportunities outside of Texas.

Company and client lunches are a must-have. The former allows everyone to touch base with
what they are working on and serves as a casual, yet equally effective, alternative to the dreaded performance reviews of larger firms. The latter gives young analysts invaluable insight into the interpersonal communication side of the business, and to business development. At virtually all times, I felt that I had something important to do and a supportive group around me if I needed help doing it; the environment was both collegial and professional, which seems to be a rare mix at a company of any trade.

Fetch Package is an outsourced package management service for multi-family property owners and managers. They help solve the growing package problem for both the property and apartments residents. Once an apartment complex becomes a Fetch customer, all residents use a designated Fetch warehouse as their delivery address.  Once a package is received and logged into the Fetch system, residents are notified through its proprietary app and choose a two-hour delivery window from 5PM - 11PM.

Joe Moyer is a student at the Cox School of Business majoring in Finance and is a Founder’s Scholar. Over the internship, Joe supported work for our portfolio company Fly in marketing analysis and worked on financial analysis for a Smart Water Technology company in our Strategic Assessment product. For the summer 2019, Joe interned at Elm Park Capital Management in Dallas, TX and has accepted a full-time offer in the tech group of a major investment bank and will be based in San Francisco. We all want to be Joe.

My internship at Harlokyn was better than I could have even imagined. From day one I was treated as an asset to the team and a member of the HarloKyn family. Biegel and Tucker are some of the most driven, well rounded, intelligent, and nicest individuals I have ever had the pleasure to meet, let alone work with. They were able to teach me so much about the ins and outs of the business world in only 10 weeks, and I am very grateful to have them as mentors for the rest of my collegiate days and throughout my career as well
